Texting in ministry

Effective Web Ministry Notes comments on an article in the Orlando Sentinel regarding how college coaches are sending text messages to recruits' phones as a tool in their recruiting efforts. We need to figure out how to use texting in our student ministry strategy.

Would be an incredible idea if Text Messages didn't cost money per message with some of the carriers. When the kid's bill goes over and the parent gets mad and pulls them from that church that doesn't respect other people's privacy.

I love the idea of text messaging, but it is kind of ridiculus that you can't turn it off.

Good point. I only use text messaging in connection with our automated network monitoring system and emergency 24x7 tech support. So I've never worried about or even thought about the cost.
